Finally spent a long awaited summer back in Europe.
September was magical – amazing weather, less pesky tourists like us – there was something especially melancholic about summer turning into fall. The air was crisp, people stopped to smell the roses more (I feel), it was like farewelling a dear friend… Of course there’s always Fashion Week and the abundance of leggy glamazons everywhere was enough to put you off carbs… forever.
Too many photos.. where do I start?
Paris // Angers
Spain and the French Riviera in the next post!

… it glows!
I’ve had a long love affair with Neon Art:
yepp, the last one pretty much sums it up for me!
Actually, i will try to explain…
There’s something darkly poetic about poignant phrases/quotes emblazoned in all its neon glory – infinitely mesmerizing perhaps because of its last chance saloon-esque quality.
I’ve been trying to look for a place in Melbourne where I can custom make a bespoke piece but haven’t had much luck (if you know of one, please send me the deets!)
So down the DIY route i went!
You will need…
Please remember to get a heavy duty needle too as you will need it to sew the neon wire onto the canvas.
#1 – Pick your favourite phrase and trace it out onto the canvas. Try not to have too many i’s, j’s, v’s, s’s and t’s as they are a complete pain to twist into words. If you’re confident that you can sew the words on straight, then please skip this step. I for one cannot draw a straight line without a ruler, so this step is non-negotiable for me.
#2 – Twist/manipulate the wire based on the template that you’ve traced out previously. Using the fishing line, thread through a needle and make simple stitches to secure the wire onto the canvas. You will need to poke a small hole at the end of your phrase to hide the wires behind.
#3 – To cover the pencil markings (and blood stains from pricked fingers in my case), paint the canvas in whatever colour u may fancy. If you skipped step 1 and your canvas is pristine, you can also forget about this step.
Et Voila!
Your canvas should look somewhat like this once its all painted. I’m also planning to sprinkle the Star Dust glitter to create a nightsky effect but am still looking for the right kind of adhesive to do that.
Hope you have fun if you try this tutorial and thanks for reading!
